New Court Date For Accused Murderer of Retired Cop David Dorn

The man accused of killing retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn, while responding to a pawn shop heist in the summer of 2020, will go on trial on July 15, according to the Missouri State Journal.

He was slain in the early hours of June 2, 2020, after the burglar alarm at his buddy Lee’s Pawn Shop and Jewelry was activated.

Dorn was 77 years old. Reports from the Associated Press state that four St. Louis police officers were shot; scores of other shops were destroyed or burglarized on the same evening as Dorn’s death.

The Incident

Dave Dorn was a wonderful person. On the day of the incident, former St. Louis police officer David Ellison described Dorn as “fair.”

“He was the brightest, cleanest man I had ever met.”

Cannon, 24, was detained in June 2020 and booked for first-degree murder in connection with Dorn’s death, according to authorities.

Additionally, armed robbery, burglary, theft, and unauthorized firearm possession charges are being pursued against Cannon.

Cannon’s trial was initially planned for July 18, but the date was pushed back, due to a lack of notification from the government. On the morning of Friday, the court’s docket was revised with the new trial schedule.

Following the killing of George Floyd and the commencement of widespread social unrest in the United States, riots erupted in St. Louis and a handful of other key U.S. cities in 2020.

In the United States, hundreds of Black Lives Matter demonstrations turned into violent riots, inflicting hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to major cities.

At the 2020 Republican National Convention, Dorn’s widow recalled the night of her husband’s murder in a speech about the importance of family.

“As I slept, looters broke into the store and ransacked it. The perpetrators gunned down David in cold blood, after which they live-streamed the murder and David’s last minutes on earth,” Ann Dorn stated during a speech in August 2020.

In real-time, David’s grandson was viewing a video of his grandfather’s death on the sidewalk on Facebook, completely unaware he was seeing his own grandfather’s death.

After being slain on the night of his death, David Dorn was posthumously given the Congressional Badge of Honor Citizen Award, which was presented to him in June of this year for his exceptional heroism and sacrifice.

An annual panel of Medal of Honor winners makes the decision on who will be presented with the medal.

In the end, David Dorn is dead, and he was murdered in cold blood by this vicious person. One thing is clear, David Dorn can’t be brought back to life.

However, the court and the jury have a decision to make. Hopefully, they make the right decision by making the man pay for his crimes.
